Fort Worth is replacing century-old water pipes, and traffic is about to feel it. A North Texas lawmaker has proposed a sweeping overhaul of the state's public school system that would eliminate the Texas Education Agency. Rep. Andy Hopper (R-Decatur) introduced a bill that would transfer the agency's responsibilities to the State Board of Education and shift school funding oversight to the state Comptroller. Hopper said the proposal aims to address declining student performance under the TEA and to move away from standardized testing, such as the STAAR test.
