The urgent call came into the Tooele County 911 dispatcher just after 9:30 one night last November. A young woman, possibly 30 years old, was having seizures.

A hostage negotiator calls and asks if she's OK. With a gun to her head, she says, "yes.""Great," the negotiator replies, "let us know if you need any help in the future," then hangs up. This is how the late sociologist Evan Stark saw the experiences of many victims of domestic violence.
