Come every holiday season, stars throw their hats into the ring, trying to replace Mariah Carey as Christmas music royalty—or at the very least, cementing their songs in the Christmas classic rotation. Yet, they rarely succeed, with Ms. Mariah almost always reigning supreme. But with three new releases, it seems that Laufey might just be on her way to being crowned the jazzy new “Queen of Christmas.”Christmas came early this year with the release of A Very Laufey Holiday! on Nov. 3.

Georgetown’s diverse religious and political environment is evidenced by many things: the presence of not only traditional Catholic gathering spaces but also those of other Abrahamic and Eastern religions; the variety of student organizations spanning the entire political spectrum; the sexual tension between the H*yas for Choice and Right to Life booths tabling next to each other in Leavey.

For how much Georgetown students seem to despise the absurd workload, competitive culture, and challenging requirements of our classes, we sure do revel in our suffering. Though conversations with friends revolve around the unbearable quantity of assignments and the number of hours we’ll need to lock ourselves in Lau, I sense the undertones of gratification, as though we love to hate our own grievances.
