INTRODUCTION Dietary patterns among Australians and populations in other high income countries do not align with recommendations made in national dietary guidelines.1 Typically, population intakes of energy-dense, nutrient poor and ultra-processed foods, including fried takeaway foods and sugar sweetened beverages, are higher than recommended, whereas intakes of nutrient rich foods, including wholegrains, fruits and vegetables are lower.
