A mangled car that has been turning heads across the Comox Valley this month is doing exactly what organizers hoped: sparking conversation and awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. The vehicle, which was involved in a serious incident north of Courtenay, has been making stops at fire halls in Comox, Courtenay, and Cumberland, as well as other strategic locations throughout the region as part of a month-long awareness campaign.

Following a lengthy career on the ice, playing for 18 years for various teams throughout North America and Europe, Comox's Brett McLean has been named as an assistant coach for the Vancouver Canucks. The team made the announcement on June 5, also naming Kevin Dean and Scott Young as assistant coaches. McLean hung up his skates and began his coaching career in Iowa, as an assistant in 2017.

Fire crews are responding to an explosion reported at the Deep Bay Marina. The explosion occurred on the morning of June 5. Reports indicate that a sailboat in the marina exploded, damaging others nearby. An air ambulance was also reported taking off from the scene. Martin Martens lives a few houses away from the scene. He said that "the explosion was heard for several kilometres. "All of the houses in Deep Bay were shaken, as if a major earthquake hit," he said.
