November is commonly known as a fall month and a month commonly associated with Thanksgiving. November is also recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month. Be that as it may, it brings a lot of discussion of raising a child versus choosing to place a child for adoption. Raising a child in an ever-changing and evolving economy can prove to be a daunting task. Although many citizens are able to find viable and creative solutions, there are various options in place for those who cannot.

Animals are beloved creatures who often serve as household pets. Typically a family or individual will own a cat, dog, turtle or snake. However there are other various pets, such as horses. Unfortunately, many horses are expensive to own, board and take care of which leaves them abandoned. Fortunately, for horses that are experiencing neglect and or abuse there are organizations such as Wild at Heart Horse Rescue that step in and assist animals in need.

The City of Carson has broken ground on a new amphitheater. The new facility will host large and medium-sized events for the community. The City of Carson Amphitheater is scheduled to open in summer 2025. The facility will provide a high-quality public space that will enrich the lives of all residents. It will serve as a central gathering place for Carson residents. Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes, Mayor Pro Tem Lawrence Hilton, and Director of Public Works Dr. Arlington Rogers were all in attendance.

On an extremely positive note, many Black sitcoms starring Black actors have been streamed for millions of viewers to enjoy. One of the more popular streaming platforms is BET+, with a widely viewed show, called “Sistas.” The show has become so popular that a spinoff show called “Zatima” was created and stars Nzinga Imani.

The Eighth District covers Baldwin Hills, Chesterfield Square, Crenshaw, Jefferson Park and parts of South Los Angeles. Harris-Dawson has dedicated more than two decades to community activism and public service. He was born in South Los Angeles and has witnessed firsthand the impact of the crack cocaine epidemic in the South Los Angeles community.
