Michigan State University Extension has developed a poster that showcases photos of common apple pests and diseases alongside descriptions in both Spanish and English. Pests and diseases featured in this poster include codling moth, oriental fruit moth, obliquebanded leafroller, brown marmorated stink bug, plum curculio, apple maggot, woolly apple aphid, apple scab, powdery mildew and fire blight.

As the 2024 season comes to an end, it is time to reflect on the challenges of the past year and think ahead to next year with fall integrated pest management (IPM) practices. As this season draws to an early close, it is important to remember it began an average of 10-14 days ahead of the normal apple season timeline. The window for apple growing has been consistently shifting earlier in the year, as highlighted in Randy Beaudry’s article on seasonal temperatures and fruit development.
