"Much of the East Coast region will have a very cold start to the holiday week on Monday, with an arctic surface high slowly moving east across the region," the National Weather Service said in an advisory Monday.

Sixteenmillion people are at risk from Texas to Nebraska for storms producing baseball-sized hail and a few tornadoes in the evening and lasting overnight. The large hail threat is greatest from Wichita, Kansas, up to the Nebraska - South Dakota border.
