Officials have identified the son of a sherriff’s deputy as a suspect in the deadly Florida State University shooting that killed two and wounded several others Thursday. Phoenix Ikner, 20, accessed one of his mother's weapons — a handgun — that officials said was used in the shooting and matched one of the firearms at the scene, Walt McNeil, the Leon County Sheriff said at a Thursday afternoon news conference.

A junior at Florida State watched a gunman pull up to campus and begin opening fire near the student union in what ended up being a deadly shooting at the Tallahassee university Thursday afternoon. At least two people were killed and five people were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds, FSU Police Chief Jason Trumbower said at a Thursday-afternoon news conference. The two people killed were not students, Trumbower said, and the gunman was also taken to the hospital.

Multiple patients have been hospitalized after an active shooter was reported at Florida State University's campus in Tallahassee. The school sent an alert urging students to seek shelter as a shooter was reported in the area of the student union. Police were "on scene or on the way," according to the alert. "Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures," the alert said.

Five million people are at risk of storms Thursday across eastern Nebraska, northern Missouri, most of Iowa and southern Minnesota, with hazards including very large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, damaging winds and possible tornadoes. The severe weather will continue into the Easter weekend for large sections of the country, as a cold front pushing south through the West and central U.S. brings heavy snow and rain, according to the National Weather Service.
