When Lisa Latten’s son, Ian, was diagnosed with autism at age two and a half in 2007, what she remembers was her fear. “I thought, ‘What am I going to do?’ I had this overwhelming need to close ranks—to protect my child, to protect myself,” she recalls.

    The Door County United Girls High School swim team remains on top of the Bay Conference with their win at the Shawano Sprints All Conference meet. The team collectively scored 378 points, the second place team Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School scored 316 points overall. The team had at least one top five finish in each event for the evening. Freshman Quinn Sperber (SDHS) finished 3rd in the 25 yard freestyle and 5th in the 50 yard backstroke.

    The Door County United Girls Swim Team, consisting of swimmers from Sevastopol High School, Sturgeon Bay High School, and Southern Door High School, competed in the Marinette Pentathlon for their first conference matchup of the 2024 season. Each swimmer competed in the same five events, and scoring was completed according to grade level. The team continued their success from last season with high placements within each grade.

    That’s a wrap on the 2023-2024 season. As the Door County United Boys close out the winter sports season, there's a whole lot to celebrate. Wrapping up the season as an entire team at the D-2 State Championship is the biggest highlight to take from the past 14 weeks. It isn't often that an entire team finds their way to the state competition, and this accomplishment is due by-in-large to the strong team culture the boys have developed this season.
