The station, WXIA-DT, first began broadcasting in October 1998. In 2006, 11Alive made history as the first station in Atlanta to air all local news programs in high definition. That same year, Gannett Broadcasting purchased WATL-TV (Channel 36), which then became affiliated with MyNetworkTV. WATL-TV also broadcasts in both digital and HD formats.
