Old Town house burns after reported explosion

Firefighters put out a blaze on Main Street in Old Town on Monday after receiving a report of an explosion. Old Town firefighters were joined by the Orono and Bradley fire departments. When crews arrived, they found the back side of the house engulfed in flames, Old Town Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. WABI reported that the house was near the bridge to Indian Island. People who were nearby at the time told the TV station they heard a big boom and then saw a large cloud of smoke.

Rockland police arrested a Warren man late Tuesday night on outstanding warrants and additionally found drugs in his possession, the department said. Police said they were patrolling near a suspected drug trafficking location around midnight and stopped a car after recognizing a man inside as having active warrants. They arrested Jason Olsen, 40, for violating conditions of release and failing to appear on a prior drug charge, the department said.

Sarah McBreairty, 36, of Dixmont, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Monday to 60 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for her role in what the U.S. Department of Justice called a “widespread northern Maine drug trafficking conspiracy.”From January 2018 and December 2021, McBreairty regularly arranged to to get methamphetamine and fentanyl from an out-of-state supplier through phone calls and texts using coded language.
