Firefighters put out a blaze on Main Street in Old Town on Monday after receiving a report of an explosion. Old Town firefighters were joined by the Orono and Bradley fire departments. When crews arrived, they found the back side of the house engulfed in flames, Old Town Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. WABI reported that the house was near the bridge to Indian Island. People who were nearby at the time told the TV station they heard a big boom and then saw a large cloud of smoke.

A Florida man, formerly of Hampden and Orrington, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to evading roughly $1 million in federal taxes by transferring assets in his bankruptcy case. Paul Archer, 46, ran a profitable online marketing business for software installation on computers, earning several million dollars from 2013 through 2015, according to court records cited by the U.S. Department of Justice in a news release.
