Established on June 18, 1889, it combined with the Bangor Whig and Courier in 1900. Commonly referred to as the News or BDN, this publication is produced by the Bangor Publishing Company, a locally owned family business.

    One Bangor man has been indicted in connection with a car crash that killed another on Route 9 in April. James Allen Nile Jr., 21, led police on a chase from Hancock County into Washington County after an officer observed that Nile’s car had “mechanical defects” as it sped by in the wrong lane, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said at the time.

    An Ellsworth man is facing criminal charges in Hancock County after he allegedly was found in possession of three stolen Chevrolet Camaros. Brandon Pinkham, 44, was indicted Thursday by a Hancock County grand jury on four counts of receiving stolen property and one count of forgery, all of which are felonies. In addition to the Camaros, Pinkham also is accused of possessing a stolen truck and counterfeit money.

    With construction of a seasonal apartment building under way next to a Bar Harbor golf course, Acadia National Park is close to meeting its housing goals for summer employees. The availability of housing for its year-round employees, however, is getting worse, according to the park’s top administrator. “The cost of real estate is only going up here, faster than our wages,” Kevin Schneider, Acadia’s superintendent, told the park’s advisory commission this week.
