The Giants have just over a week to decide what to do with the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft. Naturally, general manager Joe Schoen still isn’t tipping his hand. Schoen reiterated Wednesday that drafting a quarterback is more about value than necessity, even though the Giants need one. But for the first time, he went deep on the intriguing potential of Colorado receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter. Hunter won the Heisman Trophy for excelling at two positions last season.

For all the talk of the Giants’ offensive woes, they've spent more money in free agency fixing their defensive problems. The Giants committed nearly $100 million combined to cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland with three-year deals. They signed former Cowboys defensive end Chauncey Golston coming off a breakout season and Jaguars defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris as well. Contrast that with the Giants bringing back right guard Greg Van Roten and re-signing Darius Slayton.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Giants’ changes to the quarterback room have added more questions to their draft process. The most prominent is will they still take a quarterback with the No. 3 pick? General manager Joe Schoen said Monday that signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston allows more flexibility if a quarterback they desire isn’t available. That means the Giants could pivot to drafting another player such as reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Giants rode the quarterback carousel this offseason hoping to find the best option. They landed Russell Wilson but not before pursuing Matthew Stafford and/or Aaron Rodgers. At the NFL’s annual meetings Monday, general manager Joe Schoen sounded content with signing Wilson and Jameis Winston. With Stafford re-signing with the Rams and Rodgers still deciding on his options, Schoen pivoted to Wilson after the two sides met on March 14.

Russell Wilson didn’t take long to acquaint himself with the Giants Wednesday after officially signing his one-year contract. He frequently name-dropped his new teammates during his introductory news conference. He joked about watching Dexter Lawrence chase other quarterbacks after dealing with that last year while on the Steelers. But he also knows why the team signed him. To win games and bring the same impact he’s had in his 13-year career. And Wilson left no doubt what he believes his role is.
