The recent release of the BYD Shark 6 clearly uncovered a healthy appetite in Australia for plug-in hybrid four-wheel-drive utes. It feels like this style of vehicle could on paper solve a few problems, and now other vehicle manufacturers are playing catch up in an attempt to get PHEV utes on local dealership forecourts ASAP. Chinese manufacturer GWM has taken second place on the PHEV ute podium with the release of its 2025 Cannon Alpha PHEV 4×4 ute.

The one addition that everyone wants to know about more than anything else I’ve done to my FJ Cruiser, which, admittedly, isn’t too much yet, is this Front Runner Spare Tyre BBQ Grate. 99% of the time when I stop for fuel, which is pretty often with the FJ Cruiser, someone will ask about it. Even my neighbour wanted to pick my brains about it after he followed me home from the shops one day. And I can see why. They look cool in a Mad Max sort of way.

The Australian debut of the GMC Yukon Denali is not just a local launch of a new vehicle but also one for the American brand into the Aussie market. Rather than using exisiting branding (Silverado for example), GMC feels it offers enough to Australian buyers to stand on its own two feet.

Chasing Cars has previously had a good look at it inside and out at its global launch event in Tasmania, but this is the first time we’ve been able to drive the 2025 Kia Tasman 4×4 ute. Come July, Kia’s debut pick-up will be officially launched, but we’re one of the few Aussie outlets to get in at the ground level for an early Kia Tasman punt on dirt.
