After eight years of production and one prior facelift in 2021, Volvo has once again saddled up its dependable XC60 SUV for another stint in Aussie showrooms. Rather than building a new, ground-up XC60, Volvo has chosen to revise its best selling mid-sizer that first went on sale globally in 2017. The XC60 facelift is in dealers now.

The new-generation Y63 Nissan Patrol won’t arrive in Australia until 2026 — but Chasing Cars has completed an early test of the new-gen four-wheel drive in the Middle East, where waitlists promptly formed after the Y63 went on-sale there in late 2024. It’s less clear whether Australian buyers will share that same level of enthusiasm, particularly considering Nissan Australia’s recent sweetening of the outgoing Y62 by finally pairing its high-revving V8 with a more modern interior.

With a reputation for boxy styling, brown paint, and a general association with geography teachers fading far into the company’s history, Volvo has been working hard to develop a new reputation as an electric-focused brand with a European namesake. The medium SUV in question is the BYD Sealion 5 PHEV, also known as the Song Pro in its home market of China. Even with more than 1300km driving range (on the more lenient CLTC testing standard) and 173kW, word is it will be priced under $40,000 if it comes to Australia.

Skoda Australia is chasing police forces with its new Superb sedan and wagon, as well as a mini revival of the dying large-car segment. The fourth-generation Superb arrives as one of just three large cars offered below $70,000 RRP, joining the entry-level Lexus ES (from $65,540) and single-spec Honda Accord (from $64,900). Skoda’s entrant is the only non-hybrid, powered by a 195kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol related to the engine used in the VW Golf GTI and Skoda Octavia RS.
