DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have placed starting pitcher Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list with a mild left hamstring strain. Rookie right-handed reliever Chase Lee was recalled from Triple-A Toledo and will be available out of the bullpen for Saturday night’s game against the Texas Rangers at Comerica Park. The Tigers will need a starter for Mize’s scheduled outing on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.

DETROIT -- Tomas Nido will be behind the plate for the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. The Tigers (26-13) and Texas Rangers (18-21) meet at 6:10 p.m at Comerica Park. Catcher Dillon Dingler; infielder Andy Ibanez; and infielder/outfielders Javier Baez and Justyn-Henry Malloy will be available off the bench. The full lineup is below. Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty (1-4, 3.79 ERA) will face Rangers righty Jacob deGrom (2-1, 2.61).

DETROIT -- Tarik Skubal struck out 12 batters and generated an astonishing 32 swings and misses in a dominant performance that carried the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday night at Comerica Park. Skubal’s 12 strikeouts were a season high and one shy of his career high. The 32 whiffs were the most of his career, the most by any Tiger in the Statcast era, and the most by any MLB pitcher this year.

DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Brewer Hicklen, who got his long-awaited first big-league hit on Thursday, has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo. The move cleared a spot for right-handed reliever John Brebbia, who was reinstated from the injured list before the Tigers opened a three-game series against the Texas Rangers on Friday night at Comerica Park. Hicklen was recalled from Toledo between games of Thursday’s doubleheader.
