The road trip didn’t end as happily as it began for the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers’ bats were silent for a second straight game in a series-ending 5-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday afternoon at American Family Field. The Brewers (10-9) took two of three from the Tigers (10-8), who lost their first series since being swept in the season opener at Los Angeles (March 27-29). The Tigers went 3-3 on the six-game road trip, but lost their three games by a combined score of 15-1.

Keider Montero will make his first start of 2025 as the Detroit Tigers wrap up a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers (10-7) and Brewers (9-9) play at 1:10 p.m. Eastern time at American Family Field. Backup catcher Tomas Nido will be in the lineup on Wednesday. Shortstop Trey Sweeney will get a rare start against a left-handed pitcher. Justyn-Henry Malloy will be in right field. It’s his first start this season at a position other than designated hitter.

Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever Brenan Hanifee was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Tuesday’s game in Milwaukee. The Tigers will use his spot to recall right-hander Keidero Montero to start Wednesday’s series finale against the Brewers. Hanifee needed 38 pitches to throw 1 1/3 innings on Tuesday. He gave up two runs, but both were unearned due to third baseman Andy Ibanez’s throwing error.

A day after a nine-run outburst, Tuesday night wasn’t as much fun. The Tigers didn’t manage their only hit until the sixth inning and lost to the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-0, on Tuesday night at American Family Field. The Tigers (10-7) and Brewers (9-9) have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber match on Wednesday. Brewers starter Quinn Priester, making just his second start with his new team, tossed five scoreless, hitless innings.

Right-handed starter Keider Montero will make his 2025 debut on Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee. The Detroit Tigers have listed Montero as their starter for the series finale against the Brewers. A corresponding move will be required after Tuesday night’s game to add Montero to the roster. The Tigers are following a script they’ve used at times over the last two seasons: building in extra rest for their starting rotation by using a “sixth starter” from Triple-A Toledo.
