The Arts Council has said it "greatly regrets" spending €6.7 million on a complex IT project that was later abandoned, the Public Accounts Committee has heard. The council confirmed that it is now pursuing legal cases against two of the IT contractors involved in the failed project. Arts Council chairperson Maura McGrath said that in relation to the IT system failure the project was "not and is not an optional extra".

The National Museum of Ireland has launched a landmark exhibition exploring early medieval Ireland and its impact on Europe, called 'Words on the Wave: Ireland and St Gallen in Early Medieval Europe'. Described as a "world first", the exhibition, which will be opened by Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, presents 17 early medieval manuscripts that are coming to Ireland on loan from Stiftsbibliothek St Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst said licence fee figures go "up and down" week to week, but are "broadly in line with sales last year". Mr Bakhurst has led a delegation of the broadcaster's leadership team to Leinster House, where they are appearing before the Oireachtas Committee on Media. Fianna Fáil TD Padraig O'Sullivan asked if the €40 million shortage in 2023 had continued.

Director of the Arts Council Maureen Kennelly will step down in June after concluding her five-year term, it has been confirmed this morning. A statement issued by the board of the Arts Council, said the members announced, with "deep regret" that Ms Kennelly will step down. It added that although her term concluded in May, Ms Kennelly has "generously agreed to remain in her role to represent the Arts Council at upcoming Public Accounts Committee and Oireachtas hearings".
