The UK’s ruling Labour Party allegedly ordered its MPs not to attend anti-racist demonstrations on Wednesday. According to journalist Owen Jones, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Chief Whip Alan Campbell made the order “via a virtual call” on Wednesday morning. Jones is a former member of the party and was part of its left-wing faction before quitting because of Labour's centrist turn under Keir Starmer.

For more than three years now, there has been a constant lament on certain British "news" channels. It goes something like this: they would not say something like that if they were talking about a Muslim; they would not do that if it were a Muslim; that would not happen if it were a Muslim. The conspiratorial claim that British Muslims receive special treatment, which white Brits do not, is just one item in a feast of Islamophobia served regularly across the British media.

The recent ruling against a Muslim student at the widely celebrated Michaela Community School in London is essentially a story of a student wanting to observe her midday prayers during her lunch break - an obligatory act of five-10 minutes for post-pubescent Muslims. She was denied this by the school’s headteacher, a decision backed by the High Court. Denying her the right to pray helped to promote a team ethos of inclusivity and social cohesion, the judge said. Go figure.
