THE Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania 1977, as amended from time to time, gives exclusive authority to the Judiciary to have the final power on issues of dispensing justice in the country. In exercising the power to deliver justice, according to Article 107B of the Constitution, all Courts will be independent and will only have to comply with the provisions of the Constitution and those of the Laws of the land.

DODOMA: THREE former Investigator Officers with the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) have failed in their bid to challenge their dismissal for allegedly misusing funds at PCCB SACCOS Limited. This follows a decision given by the High Court in Dodoma, dismissing the application for judicial review in which the trio had sought for orders of certiorari, mandamus and prohibition against the PCCB, Chairman of Oversite Committee and the Attorney General, the respondents.

DODOMA: THE Court of Appeal has dismissed with costs the appeal lodged by Kaltire Mining Tire Group (Tanzania) Limited. The firm, an international leader in mining tire management and supply, had challenged the corporate tax assessment on 1.8bn/- fraud losses it allegedly suffered.

GEITA: POLICE officer, Corporal Matthew Lusangia has the option to either pay a fine of 500,000/- or serve a three-year prison sentence for soliciting and receiving an 800,000/- bribe from a citizen accused of harbouring illegal immigrants and practicing sorcery. The decision follows a ruling by the High Court in Geita, which upheld the conviction for corrupt transactions and the alternative sentence imposed on Corporal Lusangia, the appellant, by the District Court of Nyang’hwale.
