It’s been a minute. Your loyal correspondent was in Lagos to gather evidence about the aftermath of the much talked about 2024 Detty December. My remit, as always, was to listen and observe. One of my long-standing gripes about Lagos is the sheer impossibility of confidently whipping out a camera in public without attracting Area Boys. Try it, and you’ll likely end up paying a “reacquisition fee” just to reunite with your own belongings.

We are still reading Capitalism in the Colonies as evident in the 3 reviews published so far. But there are some broader themes that don’t really fit into a chapter by chapter discussion that we wanted to talk about. So we got together to try out a podcast. The main talking point was an exploration of the relationship and distinction between trade and markets, emphasising the historical context of market creation in Nigeria.

The UK Times has this paragraph as a summary of Nigeria’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics:Nigeria failed to come away with any medals at Paris 2024, despite having 88 athletes there. That was the largest contingent by a country at this Olympics that didn’t manage to win a medal. Eighty-eight was the most representatives they’ve sent to a summer Olympics, so the world’s sixth largest nation by population will be disappointed with their return.
