Hong Kong national security police have charged the father and brother of wanted activist Anna Kwok Fung-yee for allegedly handling the funds or financial assets of an absconder, the Post has learned. A police source said on Friday that national security officers also arrested the brother of the United States-based Kwok for the same offence during an operation on the same day. He has been granted bail pending further investigation.

Former Hong Kong media boss Jimmy Lai Chee-ying paid more than HK$13 million (US$1.93 million) to two former United States officials for their consultancy services for the Taiwanese government, a court heard on Friday. Lai also said he had unknowingly paid NT$5.8 million (US$176,000) to a top aide of then Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen over a 27-month period, despite the man having already stopped writing for Apple Daily’s Taiwanese sister publication.

Former university professor and anaesthesiologist Khaw Kim Sun received a life sentence after a Hong Kong jury found in a retrial that he was guilty of murdering his wife and daughter with an inflatable yoga ball filled with carbon monoxide. The pair was found dead in a Mini Cooper parked on the side of the road in Sai Kung, just minutes of driving distance away from their home on May 22, 2015.

A former university professor in Hong Kong accused of murdering his family with a yoga ball filled with lethal gas has been found guilty of killing his wife and daughter, after failing to clear his name in a retrial. After less than four hours of deliberation, a High Court jury on Tuesday unanimously found Malaysian anaesthesiologist Khaw Kim Sun guilty of causing the deaths of his wife, Wong Siew Fing, 47, and their second child, Lily Khaw Li Ling, 16.
