1 INTRODUCTION International evidence suggests a significant over-representation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), in various parts of the criminal justice and forensic mental health systems, including prisons (Fazel et al., 2008; García-Largo et al., 2020) and inpatient and outpatient forensic mental health care (Lin et al., 2017; Ray et al., 2019).
