Alice Rohrwacher’s sublime La Chimera is just now (in September 2024) finishing up an incredible six month run at the IFC Center in New York – something that is certainly worthy of celebration. This little independent Italian film has certainly resonated with audiences, and it’s easy to understand why.

All ★★★★ More ★★★★ That score 🧡 Egyptian Theatre More ★★★★★ Loved every minute of it ★★★ Was fully expecting to love this, but pretty disappointed tbh. Some stunning cinematography at times and yes, a good score. But the structure really let it down, the cuts to the armistice negotiations did it absolutely no favours. Plus too many similar-looking actors playing characters who were not well defined enough. Hard to care for anyone other than Paul....

We all know that Idris Elba got his big break playing drug kingpin Stringer Bell in the highly acclaimed HBO series The Wire. And before that, he had to hustle in Hollywood like any young actor trying to break into the business, which involves having many side jobs to make enough money to live while auditioning. London-born actor Elba had bit-parts in all classic British TV series in the 1990s eg. The Bill, Dangerfield, and London’s Burning before making the move to the US in around 2000.

Josh Brolin – who has filled the formidable comic book shoes of Cable in the Deadpool movies, and of course, Thanos – was reflecting on the fact that he was almost cast as Batman when Zack Snyder eventually chose Ben Affleck. While doing so, he also defended George Clooney, who many consider to be the star of the worst Batman movie. Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin says he would have played an “older, more raspy” version of the character.
