(WVIR) - Over the past ten years, Malcolm Willis learned to craft his own sound in studios at Monticello High School and joined the crowds at Ting Pavilion listening to Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg and J. Cole. On Friday, Willis’ own music will bump the pavilion as he headlines the Fridays After Five concert series. He says his performing name “Waasi” means rebel in Swahili, calling to his devotion to create a sound that is uniquely his.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Two men are in custody after a shooting on Hardy Drive on Monday night. According to a Charlottesville police news release, officers on foot patrol in the area around 8 p.m. heard shots fired and arrested 21-year-old Tyshawn Davis-Lee of Charlottesville and 23-year-old Priayer Emerson of Albemarle County.
