On Tuesday evening, Senator Chris Van Hollen’s office reported he was leaving for El Salvador on Wednesday to seek the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Garcia was arrested in Maryland and transported to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador in March. With no due process or credible evidence of his involvement in the MS-13 gang, Abrego Garcia was abducted leaving his wife and three children behind.

The App State women’s tennis team swept Georgia State 4-0 Saturday, marking win No. 16, the most single-season victories in program history. The Mountaineers grabbed the doubles point with victories from the pair of freshman Ruby Broadbent and sophomore Naledi Manyube, as well as the duo of freshman Alexi Cleveland and senior Olwyn Ryan-Bovey. Manyube kept the dice rolling with a 6-1, 6-3 win in her singles match. Junior Savannah Dada-Mascoll followed suit, defeating her singles opponent 6-3, 6-2.

Senator Chris Van Hollen has requested to meet with the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, when he visits the U.S. this week. The Senator hopes to intervene in the case of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia. In a press release, Van Hollen points out that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a resident of Prince George’s County, was wrongly deported without due process. He was wrongfully accused of being a member of the MS-13 gang and sent to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador.

The Butterly Experience at Brookside Gardens Takes Off More than 400 butterflies from all over the world flutter around the greenhouse at Brookside Gardens’ South Conservatory House. The Butterfly Experience opened Thursday and continues until September 21. The wildly colorful insects share their environment with equally vibrant plants and flowers. Butterflies like temperatures of 55 degrees or more and high humidity. If the sun is out visitors would be advised to wear light clothing.

On Friday the State of Maryland and Montgomery County offered $3 million to the current owner of White’s Ferry and the owner of the Virginia landing to resolve their differences and reopen the ferry. Chuck and Stacey Kuhn, who own the ferry, and Rockland Farm’s Libby Devlin, who owns the land on the Virginia side of the river, have until July 2026 to come to an agreement to restart the service. White’s Ferry has been shuttered since December 2020.
