Two exhibitions based on the extraordinarily successful poetry books The Lost Words and The Lost Spells by artist Jackie Morris and author Robert Macfarlane, are going on display in Northumberland later this week as one new exhibition for the first time. Spellbound unites The Lost Words with its highly acclaimed follow up The Lost Spells and is going on display at The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre in Northumberland National Park, on Saturday 18 January.

Two businesses in Northumberland are the first farms to secure grants through a scheme to aid rural businesses grow in the county. The Farming Advisory Service, delivered by Northumberland Small Business Service and run by Northumberland National Park Authority, supports farm businesses on strategies for growth and developing resilience as well as exploring ways to diversify.

The communications and marketing team at Northumberland National Park have won an award in this year’s North East Marketing Awards 2024. The team won the ‘In-House Marketing Team of the Year’ award for their work over the last 12 months, which included the initial crisis response to the felling of Sycamore Gap tree and working closely with partners to ensure a fitting legacy for the tree.

Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team (NNPMRT) and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team (NOTMRT) are proud to announce they have been jointly awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service. This prestigious accolade, created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty The late Queen’s Golden Jubilee and continued following the accession of His Majesty The King, recognises outstanding work by local volunteer groups to support their communities.
Rural projects to share £3.5m

Projects as diverse as a flagship mountain bike trail for the region, through to installing new solar panels for community centres, are benefiting from a share of £3.5 million in funding. The Rural Asset Multiplier Pilot Programme (RAMP) secured funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UK SPF), Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF), and the programme is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with the North East Combined Authority (NECA) as the lead authority.

Children and young people are our future workforce, and in a future where our society needs to transition to a net zero economy, having those children and young people get an appropriate education, access to applicable work experience, and have clear routes to employment is vital. However, according to a 2022 report by the Green Alliance, there is an enormous green skills gap that equates to more than 2 million jobs over the net-zero transition period to 2050. This gap needs to be filled.
