A veterinarian accused of conspiring with trainers at Hollywood Gaming at Penn National Race Course to administer injections at prohibited times accepted a lifetime suspension May 7 from the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority. In a resolution to the HISA website Thursday, Dr. Allen Bonnell, the vet in question, admitted to his role of conspiring with trainers to administer intra-articular injections to the joints of covered horses within stand-down periods.

In December, Michael Shiffman took the reins as senior vice president and executive producer for FanDuel TV, the racing channel associated with the TVG and FanDuel Racing advance deposit wagering platforms. FanDuel TV, which originally launched as TVG, also offers programming on sports betting and provides information-odds and lines-for wagering on sports besides horse racing. But racing, by far, remains the channel's primary focus, and Shiffman said fans can look for even more of that content.

The Turf Classic was the lead-in race to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve on a stakes-rich day at Churchill that included three other Grade 1 events and three Grade 2 stakes.

A frantic stretch run took place in the $1 million Turf Classic Stakes (G1T) at Churchill Downs May 3 as nearly every member of the 10-horse field had a shot, but in the final sixteenth, it was Spirit of St Louis who emerged the best for jockey Manny Franco. Spirit of St Louis completed the 1 1/8 miles on a good turf course in 1:48.20, paying $8.24 to win. finished second and Highway Robber was third.
