An Ormond Beach Police officer threw a handcuffed woman to the ground, causing her to smash into a chair and apparently a wall before hitting the floor, according to a video released June 23. Jacob Ryan Cannon, 32, was charged with felony battery, a third-degree felony, after the incident. Cannon resigned from the police force Jan. 31 before turning himself in at the Volusia County Branch Jail. He is free on $25,000 bond.

Shanna McRee was intoxicated and handcuffed when the then-officer threw her down. She suffered a gash and needed seven sutures on her forehead, a report stated. Former Ormond Beach Police Officer Jacob Ryan Cannon was charged with felony battery. Cannon was on duty when he threw a handcuffed woman down after she refused to sit in a chair while taking a breathalyzer test, a video showed. The intoxicated woman had been yelling and defying Cannon, a report stated.

Eighteen-month-old Sebastian died on June 6 after being left inside a hot truck for approximately two hours and 40 minutes, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is providing LifeVac Airway Clearance devices to its deputies and businesses throughout the county at no cost to taxpayers. “The LifeVac Airway Clearance device is a non-powered, non-invasive, single-use choking rescue device that may be used in choking emergencies,” to use when something else, like the Heimlich maneuver, doesn’t work, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The device has been used to save more than 4,000 lives, according to LifeVac’s website.
