Editor’s summaryHeterogeneous catalysts, in which metal nanoparticles are dispersed on a support material, can undergo many changes after activation and subsequent reaction conditions. Tao and Salmeron reviewed fundamental studies of metal nanoparticles changing size, shape, and surface composition in response to different environmental conditions and how these nanoparticles interact with metal-oxide supports.

Graphical Abstract Singly dispersed Rh1O4 sites anchored on the support of a heterogeneous catalyst are highly active and selective for hydroaminoalkylation at 110 °C. Different from a Rh molecular catalyst, this Rh single-atom heterogeneous catalyst can be readily separated from products and be reused in multiple runs with similar catalytic performance. Abstract C−N coupling is significant for the synthesis of fine chemicals toward various applications.
