Sometimes a short session is all that is needed to bank quality fish, especially when lure fishing. How often do you fish all day with no bites, only to get a few hits within minutes of each other, proving if you are on the bank at the right time, an hour or two will suffice. Eddie Wilson experienced exactly that when he managed to get a quick session in, which saw him land this rotund perch weighing 4lb 8oz.

After landing a fine perch of 3lb 4oz, Matthew Fernandez was eager to return to the same stillwater in search of an even bigger specimen. Given the warm conditions, he knew it’d be his last time targeting the species before spring got into full swing. One of his rods was fished with a link-legered prawn hookbait, while on the other he fisheda prawn beneath a pole float. Both baits had been soaked in Dynamite Baits Predator Plus liquid, and he loosefed maggots over the top.

Kevin Sanders had a session to remember banking a superb rudd while fishing a short session in-between the school run. “I started my rudd fishing on a local gravel pit after the river season ended, and while my first two trips were slow, a change of location on the third resulted in this PB-equalling 3lb 5oz fish," he told us. “I had managed a few fish to 2lb, plus a bonus carp, but on this trip I wanted to fish in a shallower part of the lake, before the lilies were up too much to do so.

Members of an angling club in Yorkshire have defeated a Government court appeal following the pollution of their river. In 2023, the High Court judged that the Government and Environment Agency had failed in their legal duties to review, update and install specific measures to restore the Costa Beck near Pickering. A challenge to the verdict was launched by the previous Conservative government, which Labour’s Steve Reed decided to continue.
