With Honduras becoming an important tourist destination, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) recently hosted training seminars for chefs of resorts and hotels. USMEF Mexico Corporate Chef German Navarrete helped chefs to develop new feature items for their menus. “We carried out a series of seminars for hotels and restaurants in the region, so they know how to use and how to create some new proposals using U.S. beef and U.S. pork,” Navarrete says.

The site of a deadly listeriosis outbreak has been reported to have had “inadequate sanitation practices,” according to a USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) report. The Boar’s Head deli meat plant review said the sanitary conditions were “a notable contributing factor” in the outbreak from the Jarratt, Vir., facility, blamed in 10 deaths. Between May and November 2024, liverwurst produced at the Boar’s Head facility resulted in a large outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) illnesses.

Various ag groups are breathing a sigh of relief on Friday as the potential strike at East and Gulf Coast ports appears to have been averted, AgDay-TV reports. November was an exciting month for U.S. red meat, with year-over-year gains across all categories, according to data released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF). Record Pace for Pork Exports“U.S. pork exports remained on a record pace, while beef and lamb shipments also increased substantially from November 2023,” USMEF wrote.

For the first time in nearly 40 years, an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) was confirmed in a herd of water buffalo on the outskirts of Berlin. FMD causes fever and mouth blisters in cloven-hoofed ruminants such as cattle, swine, sheep and goats. German authorities are taking measures to contain the highly infectious disease, which poses no danger to humans though they can transmit it, Reuters reports. Affected animals have already been euthanized, according to local authorities.
