TOKYO -- Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will soon admonish LY Corp., operator of the popular chat app Line and internet portal Yahoo Japan, after the company announced a string of data leaks due to hacks, Nikkei has learned. The ministry will demand that the company strengthen its security with respect to the app and supervision of subcontractors, as well as report on the implementation of measures taken to protect customers' interests.

TOKYO -- Yahoo Japan is considering having another company provide its search engine technology, which is currently supplied by a Google affiliate, Nikkei has learned. Yahoo's contract with Google expires at the end of March 2025. To determine whether to renew the agreement, the Japanese company has begun an internal technical test called a "bucket test," according to people familiar with the matter.
