Firefighters and gardai are attending the scene of a blaze at a building that houses a commercial premises and apartments in Galway city centre. Galway fire crew and gardai rushed to the Prospect Hill/Bohermore area shortly after lunch on Friday 17 January in response to a report of a smoke billowing out of a building. The blaze is currently still burning at the building at the top of Prospect Hill near the corner of St. Bridget's Place.

An area of Galway city has been evacuated following the discovery of a suspect device at a house in the east of the city on Wednesday morning. Gardaí received a report of the suspect device at the residential property in Ballybane shortly before 11am on Wednesday morning 4 December 2024. The area surrounding the device, which a source descrbed to Galway Beo as 'pipe bomb-like', was evacuated, and Gardaí report that the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit has been called to examine the device.

A large crowd of men were involved in a mass street brawl in a Galway city housing estate in Sunday 1 December 2024. A video clip, just over one minute and twenty seconds long, shows a large crowd gathered around two shirtless men who were attempting to engage in a street fight, but the unruly crowd eventually came to blows on camera.

One of the biggest GAA clubs in Galway is looking to get that bit bigger with an ambitious plan to raise funds to improve their facilities. St. James' GAA, the east Galway city club that is mostly focused on football, is offering a huge cash prize with tickets priced at just €20 for one, or €50 for three. Tickets are available at the Merlin Bar, online through Eventbrite, or with your local official St. James' GAA ticket seller.
