Firefighters and gardai are attending the scene of a blaze at a building that houses a commercial premises and apartments in Galway city centre. Galway fire crew and gardai rushed to the Prospect Hill/Bohermore area shortly after lunch on Friday 17 January in response to a report of a smoke billowing out of a building. The blaze is currently still burning at the building at the top of Prospect Hill near the corner of St. Bridget's Place.

An area of Galway city has been evacuated following the discovery of a suspect device at a house in the east of the city on Wednesday morning. Gardaí received a report of the suspect device at the residential property in Ballybane shortly before 11am on Wednesday morning 4 December 2024. The area surrounding the device, which a source descrbed to Galway Beo as 'pipe bomb-like', was evacuated, and Gardaí report that the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit has been called to examine the device.

A large crowd of men were involved in a mass street brawl in a Galway city housing estate in Sunday 1 December 2024. A video clip, just over one minute and twenty seconds long, shows a large crowd gathered around two shirtless men who were attempting to engage in a street fight, but the unruly crowd eventually came to blows on camera.

One of the biggest GAA clubs in Galway is looking to get that bit bigger with an ambitious plan to raise funds to improve their facilities. St. James' GAA, the east Galway city club that is mostly focused on football, is offering a huge cash prize with tickets priced at just €20 for one, or €50 for three. This is the scene when a usually quiet, peaceful neighbourhood in Galway was subjected to a 70-minute barrage of fireworks as youths targeted homes and cars in the area. The group allegedly began to aim their pyrotechnics at one father in the estate who tried to confront the gang, forcing him to take cover in scenes that were described as "like Beirut".

A gang based in the UK has declared "we are ready" to join an ongoing Galway feud in a chilling video of a gloved man loading a gun and showing the piece off to the camera. The gang feud has seen both sides allegedly make attacks on the other while the two gangs goad, insult and threaten the other via WhatsApp and social media. In the video of the gun being loaded, the England-based gang tells both gangs: "We are ready - UK or Ireland. 100%. Let's meet, lads. Come on, we're ready.

This is the horrifying moment that two men carrying machetes chase a man along a footpath on a busy Galway road before unleashing a furious series of slashing blows. The short clip, just 21 seconds long, shows the brutal attack which took place in the westside area of Galway city after dark. Two men hop from a vehicle as it sits at a red light on Tuesday evening 20 August. The two men leap from the car with machetes in hand and sprint towards a third man who is walking alongside a woman.

This is the brave Galway woman who has waived her right to anonymity to "remove the mask" exposing Noel Doherty who preyed upon her at just 11 years old as she slept in her own home - and sexually assaulted her. Noel Doherty, 39, a former dog trainer from Ballinasloe was sentenced to three and half years in prison, two of which were suspended, meaning he'll serve just an 18-month custodial sentence for his crime.
