The Belfast Telegraph was informed that the entire site is closing and some jobs will be moved to Belfast. An email sent to staff, and shared with this newspaper, shows that BT wants customers to resolve common billing issues online rather than by phone call. The company created an automated virtual assistant which is now supporting customers online.

The Belfast Telegraph was informed that the entire site is closing and some jobs will be moved to Belfast. It’s understood staff received an email on Wednesday and the offices will close by December 31. SDLP Foyle MP Colum Eastwood has said that the proposed loss of around 140 jobs at BT in Derry is “devastating” for the city. It is understood some staff may be offered the opportunity to transfer their role to Belfast.

Police also confirmed all the incidents are being treated as “sectarian hate crimes”. There was condemnation after video footage was circulated appearing to show two boys being set upon by a gang of youths. One is seen being punched and kicked as he’s sitting down while another is repeatedly pounded with a garden table as he lies on the ground. The PSNI said that incident was one of a number being investigated during the weekend, including damage to a bus, criminal damage and disorder.
