TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A bill to ban cellphones in Florida schools took a step forward this week after passing a committee vote. If passed, Senate Bill 1296, filed by State Senator Danny Burgess (R-Zephyrhills), would establish a pilot program in six Florida school districts to prohibit students’ use of cellphones for the entire school day, not just during time in the classroom. Students could use cellphones on the bus as well as before or after school hours while on campus.

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (WFLA) — After years of searching for the right location, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday for a new Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Wesley Chapel. The hospital will help Pasco County’s booming pediatric population, which is expected to grow 12% by 2032. 93% of kids in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties must travel out of their area for care.

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — When it comes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, few people are as in the know as Bucs’ legend Rondé Barber. The Hall of Fame cornerback played his entire 16-year career in Tampa and accumulated three first-team All-Pro and two second-team All-Pro selections, five Pro Bowl nods, and was selected to the NFL’s 2000 All-Decade Team. And, of course, he helped Tampa Bay win Super Bowl 37, the team’s first Lombardi Trophy.
