This year, Cerda also looked back at Gardena city history as officials look ahead to a 95-year anniversary in 2025. The State of the City also included Chief Mike Saffell’s review on his police department’s changes since Gardena’s incorporation in 1930. The March 13 event also included a social hour with various City departments sharing information.

Work to be completed in the next year includes final paving, curbs, gutters, landscapes, lighting, permanent signs and striping. The estimated completion date is spring 2025, Lee said. There are 49 parking stalls on the lot. Parking is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a two-hour parking limit. The June 1 ribbon cutting preceded the city of Gardena’s Bring It On the Boulevard community event.

The Gardena Police Founda- tion was the top donor to the 2023 this past week with a gen- erous gift of $2,000. The GPF contribution was the second highest donation, only behind the Gardena Elks $5,000. Presenting the $2,000 checks to Helping Hands coordinator Jackie Arcos were GPD Chief Mike Saffell, Josh Bettencourt and Alex Fleischman.

By Gary KohatsuThe Gardena Police Foundation have kicked off the 2023 Helping Hands holiday food and toy fundraiser for needy families with three monetary contributions and toy donations. Friends of the Library and Councilmember Paulette Francis each contributed $200. The Gardena Valley Affiliated Committee on Aging gave $100.
