A tornado ripped through the northwest edge of Jacksonville over the noon, causing substantial damage to a baseball and softball complex next to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. While there were reports of damage to roofs and downed limbs and power lines, the most severe damage occurred at Future Champions facility on Walnut.

Three people were sentenced to prison in Morgan County court yesterday. 36-year-old Christopher Heinlein of Cottage Hills was given 7 years in prison for aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He was also fined $500. The incident occurred in November of 2018 in Chapin, and involved a child who was a family member.

The award highlight’s MCS’s leadership as one of the top performing agencies in Illinois in terms of funding spent and services delivered.

Greene County state’s attorney Craig Grummel is assuring Greene County residents that he fully supports 2nd amendment rights. Some had questions about his commitment when he didn’t sign onto a recent brief filed by several state’s attorneys challenging the state’s new firearms restrictions. Grummel said he only learned of the chance to join the briefly about 24 hours before it was to be finalized.

One of the city commissions will consider four planned demolitions in Jacksonville tonight. The Historic Preservation Commission will look at requests to demolish the buildings on four different streets. The locations are at 332 South Diamond, 504 South Koscuiusko, 405 North Church and 316 South Fayette. Three of the four are through Two Rivers Land Bank. The fourth, on Fayette is through Sherman Pershing.
