Elsewhere, Rushville Industry edged Beardstown 4-3, QND clipped Pittsfield 12-10, and Brown County topped South Fulton 11-7. In softball, Beardstown crushed South Fulton 15-1, Pittsfield edged Western 7-6, and New BerlinSouth County lost to Tri City 6-1. The Illinois College tennis team stopped Monmouth 7-0.
Bob Merris Dies

A former local author with ties to Illinois College and area newspapers died Monday in Minnesota. Robert, Bob Merris died in Minneapolis at 96. Merris was a “printer’s devil” for his hometown Bluffs Times, before moving on to become sports editor at the Jacksonville Journal Courier during his college years.
Manchester Man Gets Probation for child sex materials

A Manchester man arrested by members of the Illinois State Police last May for child sex abuse material possession has been sentenced to probation. 20-year old Jason F. Christian pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography photographs on a digital device, a Class 3 felony on April 9th in Greene County Circuit Court. Christian was arrested by members of ISP’s division of Crimes Against Children Task Force on three counts of child pornography possession.
Edge Wants the AC Central School Board to not pay off a bond early

The AC Central School board meets at 6 tonight on the north side of the school in Ashland. Daniel Edge was elected to the school board April 1st, but he has not been sworn in.

A Woodson bar got an unexpected customer about 2:30 yesterday afternoon, when a woman reportedly hit the gas instead of a brake pedal. The Jacksonville Journal Courier reports that Rhonda Vinyard was trying to park her vehicle, when she hit the accelerator by mistake. The vehicle knocked a hole in the Triangle Bar and Grill, which was preparing for the Queen of Hearts Drawing last night.

Elsewhere, JHS lost to Glenwood 8-7, West Central held off Rushville Industry 9-8, New Berlin South County locked out Auburn 1-0, North Greene rolled over Pleasant Hill 16-5, Pleasant Plains lost to Maroa Forsyth 4-3, North Mac outlasted Southwestern 5-2, and Porta/AC stopped Athens 2-0.
Westermeyer Sentenced for Filming Sex between Men and a child

The State Journal Register reports a Pleasant Hill man has been sentenced to prison for forcing a child to engage in sexual acts while he filmed them. 37-year-old Anthony Westermeyer was sentenced last Wednesday by US District Judge Colleen Lawless to 30 years in prison. The government claimed Westermeyer used threats of violence against the child to force the acts.
Rotary Club Tree Sale Going Well

The Jacksonville Rotary Club has sold out of a couple of types of trees offered in the spring tree sale this month. The club is selling the trees for $35 a piece, and the trees stand 3 to 4 feet tall. Cathy Littleton Wahl says sales have been brisk. She says the club hopes to sell 200 trees, and members have sold about 100 so far. Wahl says the Magnolias went fast. They are sold out.
