Blackpool CC face a new era in more ways than one when they begin their season at Carlisle on Saturday (12.30pm). Not only is it their first match in the Northern Premier Cricket League’s remodelled 40 Over Cup, but it will also be under a new full-time captain. Ben Howarth is now in charge, succeeding Paul Danson who has stepped aside after two decades at the helm.

Declan Clerkin is excited by the season ahead as Fleetwood CC prepare to defend their Northern Premier Cricket League title. Last year saw Clerkin skipper the Broadwater club to a first NPCL crown since 2012 by finishing 29 points clear of Longridge. This year sees a revamped competition with two divisions of 10 teams, meaning six fewer league matches than was the case in 2024 and a later starting date of May 24.

Nathan Bolus has only one thing on his mind as St Annes CC begin their season on Saturday: promotion. Garstang are the visitors to Vernon Road in match one of the Northern Premier Cricket League’s revamped 40 Over Cup (12.30pm). Games five and six in the group stage come either side of the opening league match on May 24, when St Annes welcome Thornton Cleveleys in the new NPCL Division Two.

Ryan Norris is aiming high as he prepares to lead Lytham CC into their new season on Saturday. They welcome Caldy to Church Road as the two clubs meet in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition’s Ray Tyler Cup (12pm). It will be the first competitive match this season under former second XI skipper Norris, who has replaced Matt Taaffe following his move to Blackpool.

Chris Neal is hopeful that a free midweek pays off as AFC Fylde’s National League survival bid continues this afternoon. The Coasters head to Woking (3pm), seeking to end a run of six defeats in seven matches which sees them second-bottom of the table. Boston United’s midweek win at Aldershot Town has ramped up the pressure on Fylde, leaving them seven points from safety with only five matches remaining.
