The building was home to the Unicorn Hotel up to 1918 and then became the British Legion while the date 1696 is prominent above the main entrance. A few years ago the declining membership decided on a rebrand and rename to reflect modern times.

The Wem and District Sunday League – which included teams from the Oswestry, Wem and Whitchurch areas – folded just over 10 years ago.

GRACE Williams was among the medal winners for Britain at the ITTF World Para Challenger Lasko in Slovenia last week. Britain came home with medals with former Llanfyllin High School student Williams claiming bronze in the women’s class eight. Williams started well against World number four Sophia Kelmer, taking the first set 11-6 but the 17-year-old World bronze medallist came back to take the match 3-1.

The Midlands Premier League club overcame the challenge on Allscott Heath to lift the cup following a 3-0 win at AFC Telford United's SEAH Stadium on Wednesday night. Goals from Lewis Bloor and Harry Bower saw the Reds lead at the break while goalkeeper Jack Sheward pulled off three superb saves to frustrate Heath.
