Former Clemson pitcher Spencer Strider made his long-awaited return to the mound on Wednesday afternoon – and made some MLB history in the process. After undergoing season-ending surgery last year to repair the damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, Strider toed the rubber again Wednesday for his first MLB regular season start since April 5, 2024.

Brooke McCubbin was playing with a heavy heart during Clemson’s 2-1 win over South Carolina on Tuesday. The senior righthander was pitching under “tough circumstances,” as Clemson head coach John Rittman revealed following the No. 15 Tigers’ rivalry victory over the ninth-ranked Gamecocks at Clemson’s McWhorter Stadium. “Just an outstanding effort from Brooke. … Her grandmother passed away (Monday) morning, and we’ve been doing a lot of praying with her and kind of helping her,” Rittman said.

Another Clemson transfer has found his next college home. Former Duke and Clemson center Christian Reeves has committed to Charleston, he announced via social media Wednesday. Reeves played in 29 games for the Tigers as a redshirt sophomore this past season, making one start. The 7-foot-2, 253-pounder averaged 1.2 points, 1.5 rebounds and 5.1 minutes per game while shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) from the field and 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free-throw line.

A former Clemson quarterback commitment is bringing serious heat in the minor leagues. According to Baseball America, Bubba Chandler hit 101.5 mph on the radar gun Sunday during his start for the Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. That marks the fastest pitch from a starting pitcher — MLB or Triple-A — this year, tying Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene, per Baseball America.
