Electrification of the railway line between Kettering in Northamptonshire and Wigston near Leicester has been officially declared ready and safe for electric trains. Certification for the 23-mile section is part of Network Rail’s Midland Main Line Electrification Programme – the biggest programme of improvements to the line since its completion in 1870. The intention is to electrify the line to improve services as well as support the Government’s net zero carbon ambitions.
