    A SUPERMARKET has been forced to close as heavy rain falls across the area. Video footage from inside Tesco, Stalybridge, shows the moment customers were asked to head to the checkouts and leave the store after a roof leak forced an emergency closure around 2.45pm on Thursday, June 5. Rain is seen to be gushing through the roof on to the fruit and vegetables on the shop floor.

    MOSSLEY-based homelessness charity, Emmaus, celebrated Volunteers’ Week 2025 with a special community meal to thank their local volunteers. On Wednesday, June 4, the organisation hosted a community meal, bringing together their local volunteers to celebrate and say thank you. 22 of the charity’s volunteers attended to enjoy the evening meal alongside Emmaus staff and companions – people supported by the charity.

    INTREPID Nepalese mountain guide Phurba Sherpa has successfully completed the epic Everest Marathon to raise funds for Reuben’s Retreat. Phurba first got introduced to Reuben’s Retreat when he led treks to Everest Base Camp for the charity in 2023 and 2024. He was so inspired by the group that he visited the Retreat, in Glossop in 2023 and was guest of honour at the charity’s flagship event, the annual REUBall.

    A person has died following an incident on the rail lines near Hyde this morning. British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed they were called to the scene at 6:16am (Thursday, June 5) after reports of a casualty on the tracks close to Hyde Central station. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the individual was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is now underway.

    By Charlotte Hall – Local Democracy ReporterOLDHAM Coliseum Theatre won’t be reopening for Panto Season 2025, the council has confirmed. The much-loved venue on Fairbottom Street is currently undergoing a £10m refurbishment and was supposed to reopen in December this year. But unexpected extra works could delay the theatre’s long-expected return until well into 2026, a spokesperson has confirmed.
