MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Friday at the TSSAA Spring Fling was the culmination of a great 12 months for Baylor School tennis player Sloane Proffitt. This time, the Baylor duo fell behind by a set and then trailed 3-1, love-30 in the third set before running off wins in six of the final eight games.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — It was a full circle moment for Matthew Huinker. A 2019 graduate of Baylor School, Huinker played tennis for the Red Raiders; he was a starter when they finished as TSSAA Division II-AA team runners-up in 2018 and again the following season when they reached the semifinals. He has since returned to the prep courts, this time as the head coach at Signal Mountain, one of the top public high school programs in the Chattanooga area.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — McCallie coach Jeff Clark and his players weren't pleased with the effort put forth in the Division II-AA team final at the TSSAA Spring Fling on Wednesday, when the Blue Tornado — winners of five consecutive state championships in the event — fell 4-0 to rival Baylor at the Adams Tennis Complex. They more than made up for that Thursday as they returned to the court.

She and sophomore Weatherly Barker were already in the Class AA final at the TSSAA Spring Fling.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Baylor School tennis teams have not won a state championship since the COVID-19 pandemic — and they could not have come closer in the past four seasons, losing in championship rounds to McCallie and Knoxville Catholic's girls. So it's almost fitting that, to end that drought, the Red Raider teams are going to have to go through those two programs.
UTC men’s basketball coach Dan Earl receives six-year contract extension

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and men's basketball coach Dan Earl have agreed on a six-year contract extension that ties him to the program through the 2030-31 season. UTC announced the new deal Monday morning. This past season, Earl's third at UTC, he guided the Mocs to 29 wins, the Southern Conference regular-season title and the National Invitation Tournament championship. It was Mocs' first national title since winning the NCAA Division II championship in 1977.

Led by another dominant performance from ace Karlyn Pickens, the Tennessee Lady Volunteers advanced to the winners-bracket final of the NCAA softball tournament's Knoxville Regional with a 4-2 win over Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes defeated Miami of Ohio's RedHawks 11-1 in five innings in the losers-bracket final later Saturday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium and will play the Lady Vols again at noon Sunday.
