Southbound Bridge at Refugio Road/Hwy. 101 Coming Down This Week

A project to replace the northbound and southbound bridges at Refugio Road along US 101 near Refugio State Beach continues with the demolition of the existing southbound bridge starting Tuesday, Jan. 28. The southbound bridge demolition will result in the closure of Refugio Road below the existing bridges until Friday, Jan. 31. Demolition work will take place during daytime and nighttime hours.

Caltrans will begin a resurfacing project on the southbound lanes of Highway 1 south of Vandenberg Village on Monday, Jan. 27, weather permitting. The project will include the application of a High Friction Surface Treatment to the existing pavement, which will address a recent increase in wet weather traffic incidents. Travelers can expect alternating lane closures, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27 through Thursday, Jan. 30.
Caltrans Posts Lane Closure for Work in Gaviota/Nojoqui Areas

A one-mile segment of southbound US 101 between the Highway 1/US 101 interchange and the Gaviota Rest Area will be reduced to one lane beginning Thursday, Jan. 9. The closure of the No. 2 (right) southbound lane will allow Caltrans to complete bridge improvement work, guardrail upgrades, and slope and drainage repairs. The lane closure is expected to be in place until spring. The northbound and southbound Gaviota Rest Areas will remain open during the closure.
Hwy. 101 Gaviota Rest Areas Closed for Various Repairwork

The northbound Gaviota Rest Area is currently closed so Caltrans can remove and replace nearby concrete barrier and perform mechanical and sidewalk repairs. The southbound Gaviota Rest Area is closed as of Friday, Dec. 6 to allow Caltrans to reconstruct the concrete barrier and complete the replacement of pumps. Both north and southbound Gaviota Rest Areas are expected to reopen Friday, Dec. 20.
Caltrans Installing Temporary Signal at Hwy. 154 and Roblar Avenue

A project to install a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 154 and Roblar Avenue near Los Olivos is underway. The underground electrical work for the temporary traffic signal began Dec. 4, and the temporary traffic signal is expected to be fully operational before the Christmas holiday, according to Caltrans. The signal will be installed to alleviate the increased traffic at the intersection due to the ongoing roundabout construction at Hwy.
Refugio Road Bridges Project Means Traffic Re-alignment

A project to replace the northbound and southbound bridges at Refugio Road along US 101 near Refugio State Beach will result in a new traffic alignment beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 4 and remaining in place until October. The new, temporary alignment will re-direct both directions of traffic onto the northbound bridge to allow for the demolition and replacement of the southbound bridge. Bicycle detours in both directions will be in place as well.
Castillo Street Undercrossing Work Means Closure of 101 Offramp

A project to improve drainage along the Castillo Street Undercrossing in Santa Barbara will result in the intermittent closure of the US 101 southbound Castillo Street on-ramp overnight 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12. The work will also cause the closure of the northbound shoulder, bike path lane, and sidewalk on Castillo Street, as well as intermittent overnight lane closures on Castillo Street. A detour will be in place for pedestrians.
Virtual Information Meeting to Focus on Hwy. 101 Corridor Project

Caltrans invites the public to attend a virtual information meeting for the Santa Barbara Highway 101 Corridor Improvements Project, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13. The purpose of the project is to extend the service life and improve the ride quality of just over 10 miles of existing pavement from just south of the Milpas Street undercrossing to the Fairview Avenue overcrossing. The Caltrans project team will make a presentation and answer any questions from the public.
Expect Lane Closures on Hwy. 1

A rock scaling operation on Highway 1 at El Jaro Creek Bridge will result in intermittent lane closures on northbound and southbound Hwy. 1 in Lompoc, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5. Caltrans said travelers will encounter rolling stops during these lane closures, with delays of up to 15 minutes. CHP will be present to assist with traffic control in this work zone.
Castillo Street Ramps at Hwy. 101 Will be Closed Oct. 29-30

The southbound Castillo Street on-ramp and off-ramp of Highway 101 in Santa Barbara will be closed 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 29 and Wednesday, Oct. 30. The ramp closure will allow Caltrans to perform restriping work at the Castillo Street undercrossing. At least one lane in each direction on Castillo Street will remain open. Travelers can expect delays through this work zone, and signage will be in place to alert travelers.
