LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Recent storms in Las Vegas have shown that intense rainfall can happen at any time of year, even before the official monsoon season begins in mid-June. "Since 1986, Regional Flood Control District has built 110 detention basins and 713 miles of channels and storm drains to move water from the west side of town to the east side of town to Lake Mead safely," Michelle French, Public Information Officer for the Regional Flood Control District, explained to Channel 13.

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Wash saw water levels rise more than as recent storms brought record-breaking rainfall to our drought-stricken region. Based on rainfall through Monday, Las Vegas has already landed within the top 10 wettest Mays on record with 1.44 inches of precipitation recorded so far. This makes it the highest rainfall total for the entire month of May in Las Vegas history.

A big change is underway in Southern Nevada as low pressure dives into the Desert Southwest. Scattered showers, gusty conditions and isolated t-storms will continue rolling through Clark County for the next few days as part of this system. So far, not a huge amount of rain accumulation in Las Vegas, aside from some sprinkles, but rain gauges from the Flood District in the Spring Mountains are collecting about a tenth of an inch.
