Corporate philanthropy continues to thrive in Ireland despite global challenges, industry leaders have heard at the Philanthropy in Action: Achieving Social Impact event in Dublin. Figures released by Community Foundation Ireland, which co-hosted the event with Business in the Community Ireland, show that corporate and business partners provided more than €55m in grants between 2020 and 2024.

The Irish spirits sector will be "uniquely exposed" to US tariffs unless the EU resolves the brewing trade war with the White House, the Irish Whiskey Association and Drinks Ireland have said. The bodies, which respectively represent whiskey producers and the wider drinks manufacturing sector in Ireland, have recommended the immediate removal of all tariffs on EU and US spirits. Irish whiskey is now subject to a 10% tariff on exports to the US, its biggest market with sales of €420m per annum.

National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the National Broadband Plan (NBP) for the government, has said that more than 125,000 premises are now connected to the high-speed fibre broadband network. Additionally, NBI has 'passed' 361,101 homes, farms and businesses out of the 564,000 currently located in the NBP intervention area, meaning they can connect to the network.

Linked Finance is making €50m in new wholesale funding available to SMEs after announcing it has lent €350m to Irish businesses since launch in 2013. More than 4,500 SMEs have borrowed through the Linked Finance peer-to-peer lending platform to date. The end-to-end process from initial application to receipt of funding of up to €50,000 takes as little as 24 hours.

A café in Monkstown, south Dublin was closed last month after mouse droppings were found in a number cupboards and a food storage room. Greenville Deli on Monkstown Avenue was served with a closure order after a HSE inspector found "extensive mouse droppings throughout the premises" and noted inadequate pest control and cleaning/disinfection procedures.
