Seemingly disillusioned with the country’s leadership, Kenyans have taken to new ways of expressing their anger and frustration with their government. On social media and in everyday conversations, President William Ruto is now referred to as Zakayo, named after the infamous Zaccheaus, the much-hated chief tax collector in biblical Jericho. Ruto is also called Kaunda Uongoman, which mimics the stage name of a controversial Congolese musician, Kanda Bongoman.

Dr Henry Chakava, seen by many as the father of Kenyan publishing, has passed on at 77. East African Educational Publishers Managing Director Kiarie Kamau said Dr Chakava passed on at 5am on March 8, 2024, while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital. “The Board of Management of EAEP in consultation with the family, wishes to announce the demise of its founder and chairman Dr Henry Chakava. His association with the publishing of iconic literary luminaries in Africa,” Mr Kamau said.
