The European Union Election Follow-up Mission (EU EFM) to Kenya has expressed concern at the slow pace of electoral reforms two and a half years to the next General Election. Speaking in Nairobi yesterday, the head of the EU EFM team Ivan Stefanec said while there was some progress, many of the EU Election Observer Mission in 2022 recommendations are still pending. “We noted a lack of tangible progress in the implementation of the recommendations offered by our mission in 2022,” he said.

The late Leonard Mambo Mbotela kept his family life private, and few knew his wife and children, until quite recently. Mbotela passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, his family announced. He is survived by his wife Alice and three children: daughter Aida, and sons Jimmy and GeorgeThe veteran broadcaster, was always hesitant to speak about his wife, only doing so sparingly and without revealing much. In two interview in recent years with ‘The Standard’, Mbotela spoke fondly of his wife and family.

A family in Nairobi’s South B area has been thrown into mourning after their son aged 7 plunged into open sewer. It is reported that the boy was walking home in the evening hours of June 14, 2024 when he fell into the deep sewer around Mater hospital. His body was later recovered the following day in Ruai treatment area. The incident comes barely three months since a police officer on a rescue mission in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area fell into a manhole.
